Akhil Gupta has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer of NDTV, part of the Adani Group, marking an important leadership development for the media organisation as well as a significant milestone in Gupta’s professional journey.
In his new role, Gupta will lead NDTV’s finance function, supporting strategic growth, governance and financial stewardship at a time when credible journalism and digital transformation are central to the media landscape, the news channel said in a press release.
Reflecting on his appointment, Gupta described the role as one of the most meaningful milestones of his career. He highlighted the responsibility that comes with leading the finance function of an institution that plays a key role in shaping public opinion and national discourse, noting that the opportunity represents both an honour and a position of deep professional trust placed in him by the Adani leadership.
Prior to joining NDTV, Akhil Gupta spent over three years with Adani Enterprises Limited, where he served as BU Finance Controller and was based in Ahmedabad. During this period, he played a critical role in strengthening financial governance across the business. His responsibilities included overseeing bookkeeping and audits, supporting board and committee processes, managing working capital, and ensuring compliance with direct and indirect tax frameworks. He was also closely involved in project finance, contract management, techno-economic viability (TEV) studies, credit ratings and the facilitation of term loans, building a strong reputation as a finance leader within complex, large-scale operations.
Before his tenure with the Adani Group, Gupta held a senior leadership role at Zydus Cadila Healthcare Limited, where he led Investor Relations, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), and Internal Audit for nearly two years. In this role, he represented the company to institutional investors and analysts, managed disclosures and investor communications, and led enterprise-wide budgeting. He also established and strengthened internal audit, risk management and governance frameworks, contributing to enhanced financial transparency and stakeholder confidence.
A significant part of Gupta’s career, spanning close to a decade, was spent at Bharti Infratel Limited, where he progressed through multiple leadership roles includingGM – Head FP&A, DGM – Business Finance, and senior FP&A positions. During his time there, he was instrumental in business planning, investor and board reporting, valuation exercises, automation of financial processes, cost optimisation initiatives and strategic decision support for large-scale telecom infrastructure operations.
Earlier in his career, Gupta built a strong foundation in financial planning and analysis at Bharti Airtel Limited, working across revenue planning and FP&A functions, before beginning his professional journey with PVR Limited. Across these roles, he developed deep expertise in financial reporting, compliance, taxation, MIS and audit management.
With his appointment as CFO, NDTV gains a seasoned finance leader with extensive experience across media, infrastructure, healthcare and telecom sectors. Gupta’s background in governance, investor relations and large-scale financial operations is expected to play a key role in supporting NDTV’s growth strategy and strengthening its financial framework in the years ahead.
