Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has come on board as the executive producer for ‘Far from Home’, a short documentary that sheds light on the struggles and resilience of Afghan refugees living in India.
According to a PTI report, Shah’s association with the project marks the first time the acclaimed actor has taken on the role of an executive producer for a documentary — a move that highlights both the importance and urgency of the film’s message. The documentary delves into the everyday realities of displaced Afghan families trying to rebuild their lives far from their homeland.
In a statement, Shah said that documentaries hold deeper value for him compared to feature films because of their lasting relevance and truthful storytelling. “For me, documentaries have more value for posterity than features,” he said, emphasizing his belief in the medium’s power to preserve real human stories and spark meaningful dialogue.
‘Far from Home’ aims to raise awareness about the ongoing refugee crisis and the emotional as well as social challenges faced by Afghans seeking refuge in India. The project, driven by a spirit of empathy and realism, hopes to foster greater understanding and compassion for those who have been forced to start over in unfamiliar lands.
With Shah’s involvement, the film is expected to reach a wider audience and bring greater visibility to an issue that remains underrepresented in mainstream Indian discourse.
