Mili Kapoor has joined OpenAI as Consumer Marketing Lead for India, adding another chapter to a marketing career that spans technology, consumer goods, media and retail sectors.
Kapoor announced the development through a LinkedIn post yesterday, describing the move as more than a typical job change. “Some career moves feel less like changing jobs and more like stepping into a moment in time. I’m excited to share that I’ve joined OpenAI,” she wrote.
Sharing her thoughts on the new role, Kapoor said the opportunity brings together two areas that have shaped much of her professional journey. “I’ve spent much of my career building brands, shaping narratives, and bringing products closer to the people they serve. Joining OpenAI brings together two things I’ve always loved: the power of technology and the power of storytelling,” she noted.
Kapoor also thanked Sheeladitya Mohanty, Head of Marketing, India at OpenAI, for the opportunity and confidence placed in her. In her post, she added, “Prompt accepted. Generating next chapter.”
Based in New Delhi, Kapoor took up the role in June 2026, according to information available on her LinkedIn profile. She joins OpenAI after serving as Product Marketing Lead – iPad at Apple, a position she held from December 2024 until June 2026.
Before her stint at Apple, Kapoor worked with Philips as Consumer Marketing Leader, where she led marketing initiatives for the company’s Personal Health business in India. Her responsibilities covered multiple categories, including male grooming, beauty, oral healthcare, and mother-and-child care products.
Kapoor also spent several years at Nestlé, where she held key leadership positions. She headed marketing for Nestlé Professional and earlier led marketing efforts for Nestlé Purina Petcare. Her experience further includes a tenure at Meta as Business Marketing Manager, where she worked on marketing strategies targeting large businesses.
Over a career spanning nearly two decades, Kapoor has built expertise across brand management, consumer marketing and strategic communications through roles at organisations such as National Geographic Channel, Pernod Ricard, PepsiCo, Technopak Advisors and VF Corporation.
Her appointment comes at a time when OpenAI is expanding its presence and engagement with users in India, one of the world’s fastest-growing markets for artificial intelligence technologies. With extensive experience across global brands and diverse consumer categories, Kapoor is expected to play a key role in strengthening OpenAI’s consumer marketing initiatives in the country.
