Filming for ‘Daayra’, an upcoming investigative crime thriller directed by Meghna Gulzar, has officially been wrapped.
The film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead and is jointly produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios. The makers have locked the film for a theatrical release in 2026.
According to an ANI report, the completion of the shoot was confirmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, who shared the update on Instagram. Announcing the wrap, the actor wrote, “That’s a wrap on #Daayra. The story we’ve lived on set will soon come alive for audiences everywhere. Grateful for this journey and can’t wait for you to witness it on screen in cinemas in 2026.”
‘Daayra’ explores how a single disturbing incident can trigger equal and opposite reactions, influencing public perception and raising complex moral and ethical questions. As outlined in the press release, the film delves into the grey areas of justice and truth, urging viewers to reflect rather than offering straightforward answers, staying true to Meghna Gulzar’s reputation for layered, socially relevant storytelling.
The journey of the film began earlier this year, with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses from the first day of shoot in September. Kareena had marked the start of production with a post that read, “Day 1. 68th film Daayra with the most amazing @meghnagulzar and @therealprithvi… Send love and blessings.” Her posts offered an intimate look into the preparations, from the opening puja ceremony and look tests to script readings and scene discussions with the director.
A notable moment during the shoot was the visit by veteran lyricist Gulzar, who spent time on set interacting with the cast and crew. Prithviraj, too, had earlier shared his excitement about the project, calling it a story that challenges and excites in equal measure. Meghna Gulzar had described the film as a journey of “blurred and crossed lines,” underlining its thematic depth.
With filming now complete, ‘Daayra’ has entered the post-production phase. The team is gearing up to bring the film to cinemas in 2026, with expectations riding high on this collaboration between Meghna Gulzar, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
