Meenakshi Kandwal joins NDTV India

NDTV India has welcomed senior journalist Meenakshi Kandwal to its team, reinforcing the network’s continued focus on meaningful, people-first journalism. Known for her unwavering commitment to stories of impact, Meenakshi’s arrival adds new energy to NDTV India’s promise of delivering narratives that look beyond the obvious, diving deep into real issues that resonate with the heart of India.

As per an official press release issued by NDTV, Meenakshi joins with over fifteen years of experience across anchoring, ground reporting, editorial strategy, and independent digital storytelling. Her journalism is marked by compassion, rigour, and an instinct for spotlighting the voices that often go unheard—be it rural communities, youth perspectives, or critical infrastructural concerns that impact lives every day.

Meenakshi’s career has been rich and wide-ranging. She has previously helmed some of the most prominent news shows on Indian television, including ‘Opinion India Ka’ on Times Now Navbharat and ‘Aaj Subah’ and ‘Ek Aur Ek Gyarah’ on Aaj Tak. Her deep connection with younger audiences on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and Instagram has made her not just a familiar face but a trusted voice for a new generation that looks to news not just for information, but for clarity and conscience.

Her journalistic journey began early—reading news during a school assembly in class seven. That spark would go on to shape her life. Years later, she won the Star News Anchor Hunt, becoming the first-ever anchor chosen via a national talent search. Since then, her work on the ground has stood out for its empathy and courage. Whether it was reporting from Chamoli’s Raini village on the plight of trapped labourers, or highlighting Kargil’s urgent need for an airport by trekking through harsh conditions, Meenakshi has shown what it means to bring heart to journalism.

Her storytelling from Leh to Kargil, especially, caught national attention—not just for the logistical gaps in the region, but for revealing how those gaps translate into life-or-death medical emergencies. Her report included the voice of a 75-year-old resident who said, “I want to see an airport before I die,”—a line that resonated deeply and even prompted the Civil Aviation Minister to respond.

Meenakshi believes journalism must reclaim its trust, especially among families that once watched the news together. Her drive to deliver relevant, empathetic reporting is perfectly aligned with NDTV India’s editorial philosophy.

Speaking on her joining, Meenakshi said, “NDTV India has always stood for trust, empathy, and journalism that values the viewer’s intelligence. That’s exactly what drives me as a journalist. I look forward to going beyond the headlines and telling stories that matter.”
Welcoming her to the newsroom, Rahul Kanwal, Group CEO and Editor-in-Chief, NDTV, said, “Meenakshi brings a rare mix of depth, empathy, and editorial sharpness. Her field stories have already had a national impact. We are indeed delighted to welcome her to NDTV India.”

With this addition, NDTV India continues to strengthen its young and dynamic team of journalists who bring both credibility and fresh insight to their reporting. The move is part of the network’s broader editorial push to make journalism more inclusive, thoughtful, and deeply connected to India’s lived realities. Through such strategic efforts, NDTV India aims to inform, inspire, and empower viewers—one story at a time.
