Six-time world boxing champion M.C. Mary Kom has, for the first time, publicly spoken about the reasons behind her divorce after 20 years of marriage. In a candid and emotionally charged interview on Rajat Sharma’s iconic television show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’, the boxing legend made a series of revelations, opening up about what she described as betrayal, financial deceit, and personal sacrifice.

As per a press release issued ahead of the telecast, Mary Kom said she had kept the truth to herself for nearly two years. Appearing on the show, which will air tonight, she rejected claims that she had “ditched” her husband, Karung Onkholer alias Onler. “Maine ditch nahin kiya. Usne cheat kiya, usne ditch kiya,” she said, alleging that it was her husband who had been unfaithful and dishonest.

Reacting sharply to the suggestion that her husband had sacrificed his football career to take care of their children, Mary Kom questioned the very idea of such a sacrifice. She said he did not have a successful career and was not earning at all. Expressing her anguish, she alleged that he lived off her income and added that she later discovered her bank accounts were being drained without her knowledge. “Main itna kamaa kamaa ke sab kuch kiya… baad mein mujhe pata chala mera account khaali hone wala hai,” she said, recalling the moment she realised her trust had been broken.

Mary Kom admitted that she did not monitor her finances closely because she trusted her husband completely. She said she believed whatever was being done was for the family’s benefit. However, she later found that loans had been taken in her name, leaving her shaken. Describing the emotional toll, she said she had sacrificed her personal life and motherhood for her career, only to feel betrayed. “Aise aadmi ke saath zindagi bitaa ke kaise khush rahoongi?” she asked, explaining why she chose to walk away.

Responding to Rajat Sharma’s question about how she remained unaware of these issues for two decades, Mary Kom said the truth came to light only after she suffered an injury. She added that she felt her injury may have been a way for her to finally see what was happening in her life. She also narrated incidents where her husband allegedly withdrew large sums of money from her account while misinforming her about the amount, claiming she caught him red-handed twice after her injury.

Addressing speculation about her relationship with her business partner Hitesh Chaudhary, Mary Kom said the chapter was closed and that the divorce had taken place quietly. She told her fans that whether they support her or not, the truth would eventually come out, reiterating that she is a fighter and will continue to fight for herself.

The interview also touched upon political allegations made by her former husband. Mary Kom spoke about being pressured to approach BJP leaders, including meetings linked to the 2022 Manipur Assembly elections. She clarified that she has no interest in politics and denied claims that she was the one seeking a ticket for her husband. She said she was told by leaders that a ticket would be given only if she herself contested. She further alleged that despite having no political ambition, she supported her husband financially, even transferring ₹5–6 crore from her account for his campaign.
