Marathi Web Series ‘Lampan’ bagged the Best Web Series (OTT) Award at the 55th International Film Festival of India in Goa for its remarkable storytelling, high production values and exceptional performances.

Directed by Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari and based on stories written by Prakash Narayan Sant, ‘Lampan’ is the tale of a dreamy child with unbounded curiosity.

The award, which celebrates innovation in digital content, was presented to the creators and the OTT platform behind ‘Lampan’ for their dedication to delivering an engaging and thought-provoking narrative, an official statement from the IFFI organisers stated yesterday.

Recognizing the surge of creativity in digital content, the Best Web Series (OTT) Award, introduced in the 54th edition, marks a transformative milestone in honouring outstanding storytelling on OTT platforms and recognises the growing impact of streaming platforms on global entertainment.

This year, five web series were shortlisted for their artistic brilliance, storytelling finesse, technical excellence, and cultural impact.

The Best OTT Web Series Award comes with a cash prize of Rs. 10,00,000, which will be shared between the creators and the OTT platform, along with individual certificates recognizing their contribution to the series’ success.

This award accentuates IFFI’s commitment to nurture creativity and innovation in the entertainment sector, the official statement added. By incentivizing high-quality content creation in Indian languages and fostering collaboration among global creators and platforms, IFFI aims to position India as a hub for digital storytelling.

 

‘Lampan’, which premiered on Sony Liv, stood out in a fierce competition among submissions from major OTT platforms. The series, set in rural India, poignantly explores the emotional and social struggles of a young boy navigating his identity within the complex dynamics of his community.

Meanwhile, a PTI report from Panaji stated that Lithuanian film ‘Toxic’, written and directed by Saule Bliuvaite, won the coveted Golden Peacock Award at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) as the nine days of global cinema extravaganza concluded yesterday evening.

The Best Actor (Female) award was jointly won by Vesta Matulyte and Leva Rupeikaite for their performance in ‘Toxic’. The film, revolving around the story of two 13-year-old girls who attend a modelling school that pushes them to their physical and emotional limits, was a part of the international competition section of the IFFI.

The Best Director Award was won by Romania’s Bogdan Muresanu for his film ‘The New Year That Never Came’, while actor Vikrant Massey was honoured with the Indian Film Personality of the Year Award at the festival.
