KT Studio Genie (KTSG), the content subsidiary of KT Corporation, has migrated its portfolio of free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels to Amagi’s cloud platform without any downtime. The company has also launched Genie Shorts, a new channel dedicated to vertical microdramas in the 9:16 format, targeting connected TV audiences across international markets.
According to an Amagi press release, KTSG migrated 16 linear FAST channels, including its domestic Korean lineup and international K-Movie and K-Drama feeds, from its previous playout vendor to Amagi’s cloud platform. The channels were moved in batches without disrupting viewers. The transition comes as KTSG continues to expand its distribution across new platforms and territories, including North America, Europe, India and Latin America.
Alongside the migration, KTSG introduced Genie Shorts, a linear channel featuring Korean microdrama episodes lasting between 90 and 120 seconds. The channel launched with 73 titles and went live on LG Channels in Korea in August 2026. It subsequently expanded to Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and the UAE. Distribution through Samsung TV Plus is planned for Europe next.
Designed for native 9:16 delivery, Genie Shorts brings vertical microdramas to standard 16:9 television screens while maintaining the videos’ full fidelity. A dedicated vertical graphics layer displays channel branding and programme information, allowing the content to retain its vertical viewing format on conventional TV screens.
Wonrak Choi, Head of Channel Business Team at KT Studio Genie, said scalability was the deciding factor behind the move to Amagi. The platform’s single playout architecture allows the company to expand to new platforms without incurring additional playout costs.
“In Q1 of this year, our FAST revenue already exceeded our full-year revenue for the previous year, with an operating profit, and that did a lot to build internal alignment behind this move,” Choi added.
Jay Ganesan, SVP – APAC at Amagi, said KT Studio Genie was not simply migrating its channels to the cloud but also creating a new model for bringing Korean short-form stories to global audiences.
He added that Genie Shorts combines a native vertical viewing experience with non-disruptive monetisation, while Amagi’s scalable architecture supports KTSG’s international expansion. Ganesan said Amagi was proud to partner with KTSG in taking the initiative to global markets.
KTSG is also testing AI-powered subtitling and translation tools as part of its broader international expansion plans. These efforts include a government-supported initiative to localise short-form dramas into Spanish ahead of a planned rollout in Latin America.
The engagement highlights Amagi’s continued work with Asia-Pacific content owners as they expand FAST and connected TV distribution. Genie Shorts and KTSG’s linear FAST channels are currently available on Samsung TV Plus and LG Channels, with further expansion across platforms and territories planned through the rest of the year. The company also distributes Genie Shorts through Plex across Korea, the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
