British actor John Hannah, widely known for his roles in ‘The Mummy’ franchise and the romantic classic ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’, is set to take the lead in an upcoming detective drama series for Channel 5 titled ‘Death in Benidorm’.
According to a report by Variety, the show is created by Ian Jarvis and directed by Simon Delaney. The series will follow Hannah’s character, Dennis, a former detective who has traded crime-solving for running a bar in the sunny Spanish resort town of Benidorm. However, his attempt to escape a dark past takes an unexpected turn as he becomes entangled in new mysteries.
Hannah, who recently appeared in HBO’s critically acclaimed series ‘The Last of Us’, is expected to bring depth and intensity to the role of a man caught between his desire for peace and his inescapable instincts as a detective.
‘Death in Benidorm’ adds to Channel 5’s growing slate of gripping drama series, blending suspense with a coastal setting known more for its leisure than its secrets. Further details on the supporting cast and release timeline are expected to be announced in the coming months.
