Jio Star, the broadcasting powerhouse formed from the merger of Star India and Viacom18, has submitted its new broadcast tariff to regulators, revealing a significant price increase for its channel packages, according to The Times of India.
The broadcaster has launched 83 channel packs featuring a total of 134 channels, spanning genres such as entertainment, sports, news, and infotainment. The new Star Value Pack (SVP) Hindi and SVP Hindi Basic for SD channels are priced at Rs.110 each, reflecting an 18 percent increase compared to the earlier standalone Hindi base packs from Star India and Viacom18.
Jio Star’s channel lineup includes marquee names such as Star Plus, Colors, Star Gold, and Star Sports, with exclusive broadcasting rights for high-profile cricket events like the IPL, ICC tournaments, and BCCI matches. These premium offerings position Jio Star as a leader in commanding higher prices among broadcasters.
The price hike aligns with a broader industry trend, as competitors Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) have also increased the prices of their base channel bouquets by over 10 percent.
