India’s junior Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr L. Murugan on Monday at Cannes outlined the government initiatives undertaken to ease content shooting in India, while inviting global delegates to ‘come and shoot in India’.
Participating in a round table conference at India Pavilion in Cannes Film Festival, Dr. Murugan informed that India produces the highest number of movies every year in more than 20 languages, highlighting the importance of India as a market of over a billion movie watchers.
Speaking on the achievements of the Indian Government, he said that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has come to power 2014, various initiatives have been taken for the benefit of the film industry.
Special mention was given to encouraging startups in the media tech sector.
Dr Murugan also spoke about various incentives being put in place by the government for co-production of movies involving foreign filmmakers, and also highlighted the financial incentives being proposed for shooting of foreign films and shows in India, an official government statement said.
It is with a tradition of storytelling and a legacy of epics like Ramayan and Mahabharat that India is now aiming to become the content hub of the world.
“Initiatives like Film Facilitation Office are seamlessly enabling the procedure to obtain various permissions under a single window”, he further added.
Pointing out that language is no longer a barrier and regional movies from India were now getting global attention, the Minister invited all the participants at the roundtable to “come Shoot in India” and participate in various Indian film festivals.
