The India Today Group has once again emerged as the most awarded network at the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, reinforcing its position as a leader in impactful and credible journalism. The honours, regarded among the highest in the profession, recognise reporting defined by courage, integrity and excellence.
As per a press release, the awards were presented at a grand ceremony on March 27, 2026, by the Hon’ble Vice President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, celebrating outstanding contributions across print, digital and broadcast journalism.
Among the key winners, Sreya Chatterjee was honoured in the ‘Investigative Reporting – Broadcast’ category for her report, ‘Operation Illegals: The Alarming Rise in Bangladeshi Infiltration Across India’s Fragile Eastern Frontier’, produced for India Today TV. The investigation stood out for its depth and extensive on-ground reporting, addressing a sensitive and complex issue with clarity while underlining the importance of investigative journalism in shaping public discourse.
In the ‘Civic Journalism – Print/Digital’ category, Sreya Chatterjee, along with Arvind Ojha, was recognised for their report on unregulated water extraction in Delhi’s Bawana Industrial Area, commonly linked to the tanker mafia. Published on indiatoday.in, the report highlighted systemic gaps and environmental concerns, bringing attention to the consequences of unchecked resource exploitation and the need for accountability.
Further adding to the group’s achievements, aajtak.in received honours in the ‘Investigative Reporting – Print/Digital’ category for its story, ‘The Surrogate Mother Market’. The report examined the human, legal and ethical dimensions of the surrogacy ecosystem, once again demonstrating the role of investigative journalism in driving awareness and policy attention.
Notably, the India Today Group was the only network to be recognised for investigative journalism across both broadcast and print/digital platforms, a distinction that underscores the strength of its integrated newsroom. The multiple accolades reflect the organisation’s continued commitment to high-impact reporting that informs, influences and holds power to account.
With these wins, the group further cements its reputation for setting benchmarks in journalism, maintaining its legacy as a trusted and authoritative voice in the media landscape.
