IMAX Corp. yesterday said Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ has crossed $100 million in global IMAX box office within just 10 days of release, becoming the second-fastest film in the company’s history to achieve the milestone.

The film has now generated $140 million in IMAX global box office, accounting for 21.9 percent of its worldwide earnings, while helping deliver the third-highest grossing weekend ever across the global IMAX network of screens.

According to a press release from IMAX, the film’s IMAX 70mm presentation —available at only 41 IMAX locations worldwide —continued to witness exceptional demand, earning $5.2 million during its second weekend.

The format has generated $16.9 million globally to date, averaging more than $412,000 per screen, with additional showtimes already sold out into September. The company said the film’s second weekend declined by only 8 percent from its record-breaking $52 million IMAX debut.

Though no official figures for the film’s second week BO collections are available for IMAX screens in India, industry estimates indicate that the film has earned around Rs. 40-42crore gross from IMAX screens in the country through its second weekend. This would account for roughly 28-30 percent of the film’s India gross, an exceptionally high share for the premium format.

Separately, US theatre chain AMC Entertainment yesterday announced that ‘The Odyssey’ has delivered the most successful IMAX run in the company’s history through its first two weekends in the domestic circuit comprising the US and Canada.

AMC said the film generated the highest IMAX revenue ever recorded at its theatres for a single title over the first two weekends of release, covering the period from July 16-26.

The theatre chain also reported unprecedented demand for IMAX 70mm screenings. AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York operated IMAX 70mm screenings round the clock from Friday through Sunday for the second consecutive weekend, while many IMAX 70mm shows across the circuit remain sold out through mid-August.

The company said it is working with Universal Pictures and IMAX to explore adding more IMAX 70mm screenings wherever possible to meet audience demand.

The strong performance of ‘The Odyssey’ underscores the growing consumer appetite for premium large-format cinema experiences, particularly IMAX 70mm, with both IMAX and AMC highlighting sustained demand well beyond the film’s opening weekend.
