For over two decades, Dayanand Shetty and Aditya Srivastava have been household names, known to millions as the formidable duo Daya and Abhijeet from the iconic investigative series ‘CID’, created for Sony TV where it continues to air presently too. Now, these two are coming together in a film that will be released later this month.
Their unmatched on-screen chemistry, the perfect blend of brain and brawn has defined Indian television’s crime-drama space and shaped the memories of an entire generation that grew up watching their heroic presence on screen — much before Indians got a taste of American series like ‘CSI’, ‘NCIS’, ‘Law and Order’, ‘Criminal Minds’ and ‘Bones’.
Their dialogues, teamwork and strong bond as officers have become a part of popular culture, making them symbols of trust and justice. Now, the excitement is set to multiply as the legendary duo reunites, but in an entirely different and unexpected cinematic universe.
According to a press release from Daya Shetty Productions, in the upcoming suspense thriller ‘Hello Knock Knock Kaun Hai’, Shetty and Aditya move away from their signature cop identities and take on roles that are more layered, complex and unpredictable.
This film offers audiences a thrilling new experience where the actors defy their established screen image and dive deep into characters driven by mystery and emotional intensity.
“It feels incredible to give the audience something different,” said Shetty in a statement, adding, “People have adored us as cops for so many years, but this film lets them see a completely new side of us. I am excited and nervous in the best way possible because the expectations are high and the story is powerful.”
Srivastava shared that the love they have received as Abhijeet and Daya is “overwhelming and unforgettable”. “But as actors, growth is important. With this film, we are not just reuniting for nostalgia, we are bringing a fresh narrative that will surprise and entertain audiences,” he added.
Presented by f analyst Girish Wankhede, ‘Hello Knock Knock Kaun Hai’ is directed by Prabal Baruah and stars, apart from Shetty and Srivastava, Sonali Kulkarni and Barkha Bisht, with special appearances by Zarina Wahab and Liliput.
The film releases on November 7 in theatres.
