Hollywood studio Lionsgate has announced the development of a new ‘Hunger Games’ movie, based on Suzanne Collins’ forthcoming novel, ‘Sunrise on the Reaping.’ This fifth book in the dystopian series was revealed by Collins on June 6 and is set for release next year.
Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, confirmed the studio’s plans for a theatrical release of the movie on November 20, 2026. Francis Lawrence, who directed the previous four films in the franchise, is expected to return as director.
The film will be produced by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson under their Color Force banner, PTI reported.
The ‘Hunger Games’ series, which began with Collins’ initial novel in 2008, includes ‘The Hunger Games,’ ‘Catching Fire,’ and ‘Mockingjay.’ Lionsgate’s film adaptations, starting with ‘The Hunger Games’ in 2012 starring Jennifer Lawrence, were followed by three sequels and captivated global audiences.
‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ is set 24 years before the original trilogy and takes place during the 50th Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell.
This new installment promises to explore the world of Panem further, offering fans a fresh yet familiar storyline.
