The magic is back, and this time, it’s on the small screen. HBO’s highly anticipated ‘Harry Potter’ television series has officially cast its golden trio, ushering in a new era for fans of the beloved wizarding world.

Dominic McLaughlin has been chosen to play Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton taking on the role of Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout stepping into the shoes of Ron Weasley.

According to a report by Variety, the three young actors were selected from over 30,000 auditions following an open casting call that HBO launched last fall. Filming is set to begin this summer, with showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer/director Mark Mylod expressing excitement over the new cast.

“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” said Gardiner and Mylod in a joint statement. “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

The trio, while largely new to the screen, bring distinct experiences with them. McLaughlin was recently seen in Grow, an upcoming Sky comedy series alongside Nick Frost and Golda Rosheuvel. Stanton made a strong impression playing Matilda in Matilda: The Musical on London’s West End from 2023 to 2024. For Stout, Harry Potter marks his first major acting role.

Just like the original film franchise, which catapulted Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint to global stardom, the HBO series could be a career-defining moment for this next generation.

The series has also assembled a powerhouse supporting cast: John Lithgow will portray Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer takes on Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu will play Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
‘The Harry Potter’ series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, who also serves as showrunner. Mylod, known for his work on Succession, will direct multiple episodes.

The show is being produced for HBO in association with Bronte Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. Series author J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts will serve as executive producers alongside David Heyman of ‘Heyday Films’, the producer behind the original ‘Harry Potter’ movie franchise.

With production gearing up and a promising cast now revealed, fans can expect a fresh take on the iconic series one that aims to revisit the magic, friendships, and adventures that shaped a generation.
