Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that preparations for the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) are in the final stages and are set to be completed by November 15, well ahead of the festival’s opening on November 20.

The festival, which is scheduled to run from November 20 to November 28, will be hosted in Panaji, Goa’s capital, and is anticipated to attract filmmakers, industry experts, and cinema enthusiasts from around the world, PTI reported.

In a statement to the press, CM Sawant expressed confidence in Goa’s readiness to welcome attendees and ensure a smooth, high-quality festival experience. “We will be ready to host the festival by November 15. I will chair a meeting on November 18 to review the preparations,” he shared, indicating the government’s proactive approach to addressing any final adjustments before the event kicks off.

This year marks the 55th edition of IFFI, which has consistently showcased Indian and international films across genres, including feature films, documentaries, and shorts. Known for its wide-ranging lineup, IFFI 2024 is expected to present diverse screenings, interactive workshops, panel discussions, and masterclasses. With the rise of OTT platforms and digital content, this year’s festival may also feature discussions around the convergence of digital and traditional filmmaking.

Goa’s infrastructure, including the iconic Inox theatre complex in Panaji, is being upgraded to provide an elevated experience for festival attendees.

Additionally, Goa Tourism, in collaboration with the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), is arranging logistical support to accommodate the influx of participants and visitors. This year’s IFFI is expected to attract a sizable crowd, especially with renewed interest in physical film festivals following global disruptions due to the pandemic.
