Some users found it difficult to log in on Netflix on Wednesday night to watch the finale of ‘Stranger Things’, the series that debuted in 2016 and became an instant hit with viewers with its band of adventure-loving kids, nostalgic 80s setting and the Upside Down.
The streamer faced a similar technical issue during the season 5 premiere of the show on November 26, a PTI report from Los Angeles, quoting entertainment news outlet Variety, said yesterday.
The crash on Wednesday lasted for about a minute and was fixed after a few refreshes. Users encountering the error were met with an image from “Nailed It!” with the caption: “Something went wrong. Sorry, we’re having trouble with your request. You’ll find lots to explore on the home page”, Variety reported, according to PTI.
The disruption on Wednesday, however, was short-lived. The outage reportedly lasted for about a minute and was resolved after users refreshed the app or webpage a few times. Despite the brief hiccup, most users were soon able to resume streaming, with the incident once again highlighting the massive global anticipation surrounding ‘Stranger Things’ and its finale.
Meanwhile, few days back Netflix had hyped the ‘Stranger Things’ finale drop by putting out on its website data relating to the series across its various seasons.
The statement from the streamer had said that across five seasons, 42 episodes and over 2,500 minutes, ‘Stranger Things’ built a world that audiences kept coming back to. Seasons 1-4 garnered more than 1.2 billion views to date, the most views for any Netflix show. In just four weeks, Season 5 Vol. 1 had already reached 102.6 million views globally and all five seasons still remain in the Top 10 this week, according to the statement put out on Christmas eve.
Fans have obsessed over countless iconic moments across all seasons, but two were the most popular with members. The most rewatched scenes in all of ‘Stranger Things’ are: i) Season 4: When Nancy falls into a trance/possession by Vecna in the seventh episode and ii) Season 3: When Dustin and Suzie sing ‘Never Ending Story’ duet at slightly over 35 minutes in the eighth episode.
Then, Season 5, Vol. 1’s premiere week was the biggest in the history of Netflix for an English language show, amassing 59.6 million views, hitting #1 in 90 countries and propelling Seasons 1-4 back into the Top 10 — marking the first time an English language Netflix show has had five seasons in the Top 10.
Since the debut of the Netflix Top 10 in 2021, ‘Stranger Things’ has made the Global Top 10 list 78 times and reached the Top 10 in all 93 countries tracked by the streamer, the statement added.
