Facebook Inc.’s app, its photo-sharing platform Instagram and messaging platform WhatsApp were down Monday for thousands of users, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
The outage hit users around the globe, including those in India. In India, people started facing difficulties from around 8.10 pm onwards.
According to an initial Reuters report, the tracking portal showed there were more than 20,000 incidents of people reporting issues with Facebook and Instagram.
The social-media giant’s instant messaging platform WhatsApp was also down for over 14,000 users, while Messenger was down for nearly 3,000 users.
Down detector only tracks outages by collating status reports from a series of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform.
The outage might be affecting a larger number of users.
Facebook did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for a comment.
Reportedly, Facebook has over 400 million users in India, and its WhatsApp messenger counts the country as its biggest market with over 500 million users. Instagram has over 210 million users in India.
