KRAFTON, Inc. has announced that its popular battle royale game ‘PUBG’ is being developed into a live-action series at Netflix, marking a new step in the expansion of the globally recognised gaming franchise into original entertainment content.
According to a KRAFTON press release, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Donald Glover, known for ‘Atlanta’ and ‘Community’, will direct, write, executive produce and star in the upcoming series. His brother, Stephen Glover, will join the project as a writer and executive producer.
The series will also be executive produced by Michael Schaefer for NEON TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H, KRAFTON’s entertainment entity involved in the development and production of the adaptation.
‘PUBG’, which helped popularise the battle royale genre globally, has grown into one of the world’s most enduring gaming franchises. The game has become a global cultural icon and holds seven Guinness World Records, reflecting its reach and lasting impact in the gaming industry.
With the live-action adaptation, ‘KRAFTON’ is expanding the ‘PUBG’ universe beyond gaming and into original entertainment. The involvement of LV3H underlines the company’s focus on developing the franchise for new formats and audiences.
The Netflix series will bring the popular game into a live-action setting, with Glover taking on multiple roles across its creative and production process. However, details about the storyline, cast beyond Glover, production schedule and release date have not yet been announced.
The project adds to KRAFTON’s efforts to expand its intellectual properties into entertainment content, while bringing one of its best-known gaming franchises to the global streaming audience through Netflix.
