In response to the alarming ‘Thane Call Centre Scam,’ global OTT platform DocuBay, under the IN10 Media Network, releases its latest investigative crime documentary titled ‘Bogus Phone Operators.’
According to a press release, the film sheds light on the perils of BPO scams originating from India, specifically targeting vulnerable individuals, notably senior citizens.
Girish Dwibhashyam, COO of DocuBay, stated, “The shocking ‘Thane Call Centre Scam’ prompted us to take action. The narrative of hundreds of employees in a seemingly legitimate call center allegedly defrauding thousands of Americans needed to be shared globally.”
Reportedly, around 600 deceptive call center employees in Thane, Maharashtra, collaborated to scam over 15,000 Americans, resulting in estimated losses exceeding $50 million. The documentary provides an in-depth exploration of this scam, revealing the collaborative efforts between the FBI and Indian police to uncover the truth.
Despite law enforcement actions, the documentary highlights the persistence of these criminal networks, emphasizing the need for international cooperation and heightened awareness.
Satya Prakash Upadhyaya, director of ‘Bogus Phone Operators,’ shared, “As a victim of scam calls, this documentary is my urgent plea to safeguard our digital world. We must educate citizens before these scams pose an insurmountable threat to society.”
The filmmakers collaborated with experts, media, lawyers, and call center employees during the research and filming process, working closely with Indian police and the FBI to establish communication with victims. The documentary features firsthand accounts of the scams’ impact on victims’ lives.
Yule Kurup, producer at Nirvaan Entertainment, commented, “The documentary serves as a reminder of the pervasive threat of cybercrime and the importance of remaining vigilant in an increasingly connected world. Through our examination of the ‘Thane Call Centre Scam,’ we aim to raise awareness and empower viewers to protect themselves from similar fraudulent schemes.”
Dwibhashyam added, “Bogus Phone Operators aims to uncover the masterminds behind these crimes. The filmmakers have investigated and explored the complexities of this scam industry, which appears to be just the tip of the iceberg.”
Produced by Nirvaan Entertainment, ‘Bogus Phone Operators’ promises to be a compelling exposé, emphasizing the significance of vigilance and collaboration in combating cybercrime. The documentary will be available for streaming on DocuBay starting March 8, 2024.
