Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘Dhurandhar’ has emerged as a major box office force, storming past the Rs 550 crore mark at the worldwide box office within just 10 days of its release. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the espionage drama has delivered record-breaking numbers both in India and overseas, cementing its position as one of the biggest Hindi film successes in recent years.
According to a PTI report, the makers announced on Monday that ‘Dhurandhar’ has collected Rs 552.70 crore globally so far. In India, the film earned Rs 58.20 crore nett on its second Sunday, marking the biggest Sunday ever for a Hindi film. This took its total India nett collection to Rs 364.60 crore, while the India gross now stands at Rs 430.20 crore. Overseas earnings have touched Rs 122.50 crore.
The film opened strongly with Rs 218 crore nett in its first week. It maintained momentum in the second week, collecting Rs 34.70 crore on the second Friday and Rs 53.70 crore on the second Saturday, before culminating in the historic second Sunday haul. The makers said the film has enjoyed an “unprecedented, record-shattering run”, with each day outperforming the previous one from the first Monday onward.
They added that ‘Dhurandhar’ has registered the biggest second Friday, second Saturday and second Sunday in the history of Hindi cinema. “With packed houses, midnight shows and round-the-clock screenings continuing unabated, there is simply no stopping this monster hit. The ‘Dhurandhar’ wave has now become a worldwide phenomenon, driven by unprecedented word of mouth and an audience love that refuses to slow down,” the statement said.
Written and directed by Aditya Dhar, ‘Dhurandhar’ is a high-octane spy thriller that follows covert intelligence operations against the backdrop of major geopolitical and terror events, including the Kandahar plane hijack, the 2001 Parliament attack and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The film is largely set in Lyari, Karachi, an area historically associated with gang wars and violent turf battles.
The film has sparked polarising reactions among critics and audiences in India, but its box office performance has remained unaffected.
Produced by Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar under B62 Studios in association with Jyoti Deshpande’s Jio Studios, ‘Dhurandhar’ features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, R Madhavan and Rakesh Bedi alongside Ranveer in the lead role.
