The High Court of Delhi has restrained some websites from broadcasting the Asia cup cricket matches, according to a report in lawtrend.in.
The Asia Cup started on Saturday and will wrap up on September 11. India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Pakistan will be participating in the tournament.
The high-decibel India vs. Pakistan match was played on Sunday.
The Bench of Justice Pratibha M Singh passed the order in a plea filed by Star India Pvt Ltd and Novi Digital Entertainment Pvt Ltd who sought to restrain the illegal broadcasting of the matches, the Live Trend report said.
Over the course of the hearing, the court was also informed that Star has acquired the exclusive global rights for telecast and online streaming of the matches.
Meanwhile, apart from Disney Star’s rights to the 15th edition of the Asia Cup Cricket tournament in India, the matches are also being telecast live over YuppTV’s OTT platform in 70+ countries as the leading OTT platform bagged the broadcasting rights for Asia Cup 2022.
The cricket tournament will be available for viewers online exclusively on YuppTV’s streaming platforms in 70+ countries, which include Continental Europe, Malaysia, Australia (Non-Exclusive), New Zealand, Japan, South East Asia (except Singapore) and Hong Kong (non-exclusive). The matches are set to be held in two venues in Dubai and Sharjah, an official statement from YuppTV said.
