The popular anime series ‘Dan Da Dan’ is officially returning with a third season, slated for release in 2027. The announcement was made by animation studio Science Saru during Jump Festa, where a new key visual for the supernatural comedy series was also unveiled, further exciting fans of the franchise.

According to a UNI report, ‘Dan Da Dan’ first premiered with its debut season airing from October to December 2024, followed by the second season between July and September 2025. The anime is adapted from Yukinobu Tatsu’s hit manga of the same name, which has sold over 12 million copies and continues to be serialized weekly on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump app.

The story centres on Momo, a high school girl from a family of spiritual mediums, voiced by Shion Wakayama, and her classmate Okarun, an occult enthusiast voiced by Natsuki Hanae. Their friendship begins after Momo rescues Okarun from bullies, but quickly turns into a debate over the existence of ghosts and aliens—beliefs that sharply divide the two.

To settle their argument, Momo visits an abandoned hospital believed to attract UFO sightings, while Okarun explores a haunted tunnel. Both unexpectedly come face-to-face with powerful supernatural entities, setting off a chain of bizarre paranormal events. As the story unfolds, Momo awakens hidden spiritual abilities, while Okarun gains cursed powers, pulling them into strange battles, escalating chaos and an emerging romantic connection.

‘Dan Da Dan‘ is co-produced by Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS), the Osaka-based broadcaster with more than five decades of experience in anime production. MBS has been associated with several landmark titles, including ‘Attack on Titan’, ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’, ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ and the iconic film ‘Akira’.

Science Saru, the studio behind the series, is widely recognised for critically acclaimed projects such as ‘Devilman Crybaby’, ‘Lu Over the Wall’, ‘Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!’, ‘Inu-Oh’ and ‘The Colors Within’. The studio’s upcoming slate includes new television anime adaptations of ‘Ghost in the Shell’ and ‘Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia’, both scheduled for release in 2026.

With its blend of supernatural chaos, sharp humour and emotional depth, ‘Dan Da Dan’ has built a strong global fan base, and the announcement of its third season signals a continued expansion of its offbeat and imaginative universe.
