In a key policy announcement at the first edition of ‘Mumbai Tak Baithak’ yesterday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the implementation of the three-language formula from the National Education Policy (NEP) across the State. The move marks a major educational shift and aligns Maharashtra with NEP 2020’s broader linguistic and pedagogical vision.
The event, according to a press release from ITG, hosted by Mumbai Tak — India Today Group’s Marathi digital platform — brought together Maharashtra’s top political minds, public intellectuals, and emerging leaders to discuss the state’s evolving political, social, and developmental priorities. Held in Mumbai, the summit witnessed thought-provoking conversations on governance, inclusion, municipal strategies, and educational reforms.
During his address, Fadnavis emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing NEP in its full spirit, stating, “The three-language policy will soon be a reality in Maharashtra’s schools.” This policy mandates the teaching of three languages, including Hindi, English, and one regional or mother tongue, aimed at promoting multilingual proficiency among students.
Key attendees at the event included Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, senior leaders Balasaheb Thorat, Chhagan Bhujbal, Aditya Thackeray and Bala Nandgaonkar. First-time legislators like Sneha Dubey, Babasaheb Deshmukh and Sana Malik added a fresh, youthful dimension to the panel discussions.
The event also featured notable experts like Padma Shri awardee Girish Prabhune, economist and MP Dr. Narendra Jadhav and special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who was recently nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Their interventions on social equity, regional development and judicial reform added depth to the conversation.
