Carla Gugino, known for her performances in the Spy Kids series, ‘Watchmen’, and ‘San Andreas’, is all set to take on a chilling new role in the upcoming horror thriller ‘Winthrop’. The actress will star opposite Lou Taylor Pucci in the film adaptation of ‘Knifepoint Horror’, a cult podcast with a loyal global following.
As per a PTI report, ‘Winthrop’ is based on the fan-favorite episode ‘The Lockbox,’ created by Soren Narnia the mind behind the atmospheric and minimalistic horror anthology podcast.
Production on the film is scheduled to begin this summer in Vancouver, with Gugino playing a woman who must confront unthinkable horrors as she tries to protect her troubled cousin, Winthrop, portrayed by Pucci. What starts as an act of familial loyalty quickly descends into a harrowing confrontation with a relentless supernatural force.
The storyline promises a deeply psychological horror narrative, in keeping with the tone of the original podcast, which gained popularity for its stripped-down yet bone-chilling approach to storytelling. In the film, Gugino’s character is drawn into an escalating nightmare after her cousin becomes the target of an otherworldly presence, forcing her to risk everything to uncover the truth and shield him from the unseen terror.
Gugino, with her flair for portraying emotionally rich and intense roles, seems well-suited for a narrative that blends psychological tension with supernatural dread. Lou Taylor Pucci, who has earned acclaim for his work in indie hits and horror projects like Evil Dead (2013), is expected to bring depth to the titular character of Winthrop, who is as much a mystery to himself as he is to those around him.
Directed by a yet-to-be-named filmmaker, ‘Winthrop’ is being positioned as a suspense-heavy horror film with a focus on atmosphere, isolation, and the terrifying unknown — trademarks of the Knifepoint Horror legacy. The film is expected to attract fans of elevated horror and psychological thrillers when it arrives on screens in the coming year.
More updates on casting and release dates are expected as production begins. Until then, horror fans have much to look forward to as ‘Winthrop’ takes shape.
