The Union Cabinet has approved the draft of Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill 2023 for tabling in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, PTI said on Wednesday.
The bill proposes to levy a penalty of up to Rs 250 crore on entities for each violation of the bill’s norms.
“The Cabinet has approved the draft of the DPDP bill. It will be tabled in Parliament in the upcoming session,” the source said.
The monsoon session of Parliament will be held from July 20 to August 11.
According to PTI, the bill includes almost all of the provisions of the previous draught that was issued for consultation by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The proposed law does not grant blanket exemption to government entities.
“In the event of a dispute, the Data Protection Board will rule.” Citizens will have the right to seek restitution in civil court. “A lot of things will evolve gradually.”
While individuals will have the right to seek details about their data collection, storage, and processing once the law is implemented.
