India will host the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting on August 21, 2026, under its BRICS Chairship. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia will chair the meeting.
According to an official government statement today, the meeting will bring together Communications Ministers and senior officials from BRICS member countries to discuss cooperation in technology, digital transformation, innovation and digital infrastructure.
The discussions will focus on emerging technologies, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), future communication networks, cybersecurity, digital connectivity and capacity building. Member countries will also share their experiences and best practices to support digital development.
India is focusing on stronger cooperation among BRICS countries in areas such as cybersecurity, resilient digital infrastructure, future networks, emerging technologies and capacity building. The Department of Telecommunications is also working on proposals for BRICS Capacity Building Centres.
The meeting will build on the discussions held during the 11th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting under Brazil’s BRICS Chairship in 2025. That meeting highlighted the need for continued cooperation among BRICS members in ICT, digital public infrastructure and global digital governance.
As part of the programme, Scindia will hold a media briefing to share details of the discussions and key outcomes. The minister will also visit the Digital BRICS Forum Expo, where digital technologies, innovations and solutions related to the BRICS ecosystem will be showcased. The expo will also provide an opportunity to highlight India’s technology capabilities and encourage knowledge sharing among participating countries.
The meeting is being held under India’s BRICS theme, ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’, while the ICT Track follows the theme, ‘Innovate, Cooperate and Transform (ICT) for a Resilient Future.’
The meeting is expected to further strengthen cooperation among BRICS countries and support the development of a more secure, inclusive and sustainable digital future.
