A BBC news presenter has been suspended amid allegations of involvement in a scandal concerning explicit photos with a teenager. The presenter is accused of paying a teenage individual thousands of pounds to pose for sexually explicit images, starting when the person was 17 years old.
The BBC became aware of a complaint in May, and additional allegations of a different nature were reported on Thursday. The broadcaster has informed external authorities about the matter. The Metropolitan Police in London confirmed receiving initial contact from the BBC but stated that no formal referral or allegation had been made, Reuters reported.
The BBC emphasized the complexity and rapid progression of the situation and assured that it is working swiftly to establish the facts. A male staff member has been suspended in connection with the allegations. The broadcaster stressed the importance of handling these matters fairly and with care, although specific details regarding the claims were not disclosed.
