The Indian government has said that an expert committee set up to look into functioning of Broadcast Audience Research Council India (BARC India), following allegations misconducts by company officials, has submitted its report, but “no specific” action on the suggestions has been taken yet.
While admitting that based on inputs provided in a report of a committee, headed by pubcaster Prasar Bharati CEO, along with recommendations of regulator TRAI and existing legal provisions “appropriate interventions could be considered”, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar said, “As of now, no specific action has been taken on the recommendations made in the report of the committee.”
Javadekar was answering questions related to his ministry in Rajya Sabha or Upper House of Parliament on Monday.
The expert committee, constituted last year by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, had made recommendations on measurement methodology, structural changes in the composition of the rating agencies (BARC India), audits and other issues taking into account suggestions made by broadcast and telecoms regulator TRAI on total overhaul of the audience measurement system.
