KRAFTON Inc Chairman Byung Gyu Chang met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, reaffirming the South Korean gaming major’s long-term commitment to India’s rapidly growing gaming, technology and digital entertainment ecosystem.
The company is planning to invest an additional $250 million in the country over the next three to four years.
The proposed investment, according to a press statement from KRAFTON India, will take the company’s total planned investment in India to about $500 million and support the growth of the country’s gaming ecosystem, homegrown intellectual property and startups, while expanding its focus on emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics and deep-tech.
At the meeting with Modi, which happened on September 5, Chang also highlighted opportunities for India and South Korea to strengthen India’s position as a global hub for gaming, innovation and emerging technologies.
The engagement aligns with the Modi government’s ‘Create in India, Create for India, Create for the World’ mission, the release said.
“India is a market of immense opportunity, with exceptional talent across gaming, technology and innovation,” Chang said.
“Our continued investments reflect our long-term confidence in India and our commitment to contributing to its digital economy,” he observed, adding that KRAFTON looked forward to working with India’s creators, developers and entrepreneurs to build “globally relevant experiences and technologies”.
KRAFTON has invested $250 million in India to date and has also set up a $670 million venture growth fund to facilitate investments in the country, according to the release.
As part of its talent-development efforts, the company recently launched KIGI Academy, an industry-academia initiative aimed at building future-ready skills in game development and digital creation.
It has also strengthened its India presence through the acquisition of Pune-based Nautilus Mobile, the studio behind the Real Cricket franchise, to further nurture homegrown gaming talent and locally developed intellectual property.
Headquartered in South Korea and founded in 2007, KRAFTON is a global game developer and publisher that brings together a portfolio of studios and gaming franchises including PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, PUBG MOBILE, inZOI and Subnautica.
