Apple has unveiled a new and more advanced version of Siri, called Siri AI, at its worldwide developers conference (WWDC) 2026, marking the company’s biggest artificial intelligence announcement to date.
According to the FORTUNE report, the launch comes as Apple faces growing pressure to keep pace with rivals such as Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and anthropic in the rapidly evolving AI market. industry analysts had described this year’s WWDC as one of Apple’s most important events in recent years, with many expecting the company to outline a clearer AI strategy.
The star of the event was Siri AI, which Apple says is more intelligent, conversational, and personalized than previous versions of its voice assistant. the upgraded Siri can understand a user’s personal context, access information stored across apps and devices, and provide more detailed responses while maintaining the flow of a conversation.
According to Apple, Siri AI can combine real-time information with data available on a user’s device to deliver more relevant answers and perform tasks more effectively. the assistant is also capable of handling follow-up questions without requiring users to repeat information.
In a major shift, Apple announced that Siri AI will also be available as a standalone application. the move positions Siri to compete more directly with popular AI chatbots such as ChatGPT and Claude. Apple has also introduced customizable voice options, allowing users to personalize their experience.
The announcement is particularly significant because Apple has faced criticism over the rollout of Apple Intelligence, its first major AI platform introduced in 2024. several key features were delayed, leading to concerns about the company’s ability to compete in the AI race. With Siri AI, Apple is aiming to regain momentum and demonstrate its long-term commitment to artificial intelligence.
During the keynote presentation, Apple’s software chief Craig Federighi emphasized the company’s focus on privacy. without naming competitors directly, he said some AI companies appear to be prioritizing technological advancement over user needs and privacy protections. Apple reiterated that many of its AI features are designed to process information securely while giving users greater control over their personal data.
Beyond Siri AI, Apple also introduced a new AI-powered photography feature called Spatial Reframing. the tool uses 3D modeling technology to allow users to adjust the angle, framing, and composition of photos after they have already been captured, offering greater flexibility during editing.
The company also announced the second generation of its foundation models, which are capable of processing speech, text, and images. these upgraded models will work together through a new orchestration system designed to improve the performance of Apple Intelligence and other AI-powered features across Apple’s ecosystem.
Analysts believe the success of Siri AI could play a crucial role in shaping Apple’s position in the AI market. investors and industry observers will be closely watching how the new assistant performs once it becomes available to users.
With a renewed focus on artificial intelligence, Apple is signaling that AI will be at the center of its future products and services, as the company seeks to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive technology landscape.
