Amazon has expanded its smart speaker portfolio in India with the launch of the Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio. The company said both Alexa-powered devices are designed to offer premium audio, faster performance and enhanced smart home automation capabilities through new custom silicon chips and Omnisense technology.
The Echo Dot Max is positioned as Amazon’s most advanced Echo Dot yet. It features a two-way speaker system, including a high-excursion woofer and a custom tweeter, aimed at delivering deeper bass and clearer highs. Amazon claimed the speaker offers nearly three times the bass of the Echo Dot (5th Gen), while its redesigned audio architecture doubles the air space for improved sound performance.
The new Echo Studio, meanwhile, according to an Amazon statement yesterday, comes with support for room-adapting spatial sound and Dolby Atmos. Amazon said the speaker combines a high-excursion woofer with three full-range drivers to create immersive, room-filling audio. The device also introduces a redesigned spherical form factor with a 3D knit fabric finish.
Both devices are powered by Amazon’s AZ3 series custom silicon chips. The Echo Dot Max uses the AZ3 chip, while the Echo Studio runs on the more advanced AZ3 Pro processor. According to the company, the chips improve Alexa wake-word detection by nearly 50 per cent and enhance conversation detection capabilities.
Amazon has also integrated its Omnisense platform into the speakers. The technology uses audio, ultrasound, Wi-Fi radar and accelerometer signals to enable automated smart home routines based on motion, presence and temperature detection. The speakers support Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Thread, Matter and Bluetooth connectivity for pairing with compatible smart home appliances.
The devices can also be connected with compatible Fire TV Stick models to create an Alexa Home Theater setup. Amazon said users can stream music, podcasts and audiobooks through services including Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, JioSaavn and Audible.
The Echo Dot Max is priced at Rs. 10,999 and is available in Graphite, Amethyst and Glacier White colour options. The Echo Studio is priced at Rs. 23,999 and comes in Graphite and Glacier White variants. Both products are available on online platforms.
