Ahead of World Environment Day on June 5, CNN-News18 has launched a new sustainability initiative, #CNNNews18OneLess, aimed at encouraging people to adopt small, conscious habits that can collectively make a meaningful difference to the environment.
The campaign, announced through a Network18 press release, is built around a simple yet powerful message: environmental change begins with everyday choices. Through #CNNNews18OneLess, the news channel is urging citizens to commit to one small action that reduces their environmental footprint, reinforcing the idea that millions of individual efforts can create a significant impact.
The initiative highlights practical examples that people can easily incorporate into their daily lives. Choosing one less unnecessary delivery order can reduce packaging waste and paper consumption. Taking one less elevator ride can help save energy and lower emissions. Similarly, avoiding one idle engine, requesting one less printed bill, or reducing short-distance car trips can contribute to lowering pollution and conserving resources.
As part of the campaign, CNN-News18 will roll out a series of special reports and discussions across its television and digital platforms. These include stories examining India’s growing cooling crisis and the increasing pressure that air-conditioner usage is placing on the country’s power infrastructure. Another segment, titled ‘One Less Degree’, will focus on how minor adjustments in AC temperature settings can deliver significant environmental benefits.
The campaign will also feature expert-led discussions on reducing plastic waste at home, using household appliances more efficiently, and adopting sustainable lifestyle practices. Additional programming will explore how short-distance driving is contributing to urban pollution and what alternatives can help reduce the environmental burden.
CNN-News18’s anchors will actively participate in the initiative by encouraging viewers to share their own “One Less” pledges, creating a nationwide conversation around practical environmental action.
Commenting on the campaign, Rahul Shivshankar said that environmental degradation is often driven by countless small decisions made every day. He noted that the campaign aims to inspire individuals to become part of the solution by making conscious choices in their daily lives.
Smriti Mehra said the responsibility of a news platform extends beyond reporting events and includes fostering conversations that matter. She added that environmental sustainability is a present-day concern and that collective action can help create lasting change for future generations.
With #CNNNews18OneLess, the channel is positioning itself not only as a platform reporting on climate and sustainability issues but also as one that seeks to encourage practical action, making environmental responsibility more relatable and accessible to everyday citizens.
