Sony MAX is set to bring the television premiere of ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ to audiences across the country on May 31 at 1 pm. Starring Aamir Khan in the lead role, the heartwarming sports drama will make its World Television Premiere after witnessing strong theatrical and digital success.
According to a press release, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ connected deeply with audiences through its emotional storytelling, humour and themes of togetherness. The film focuses on family bonds, individuality and acceptance, while also opening conversations around neurodiversity and emotional understanding within families.
Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the film follows the story of Gulshan Arora, a basketball coach played by Aamir Khan, whose life changes after a drunk-driving incident leads him to community service. As part of his sentence, he is asked to coach a team of neurodivergent players for a basketball tournament. What initially begins as a reluctant responsibility slowly transforms into a deeply emotional and life-changing journey.
The film also stars Genelia Deshmukh as Sunita, Gulshan’s wife, in a key role. Alongside the lead cast, the film features Naman Misra, Rishabh Jain, Aroush Datta, Ashish Pendse, Simran Mangeshkar, Vedant Sharma, Samvit Desai, Rishi Shahani, Aayush Bhansali and Gopikrishnan K Varma, all of whom are real individuals rather than trained actors, adding authenticity and emotional depth to the narrative.
Speaking about the film’s television premiere, Aamir Khan said the overwhelming response received by ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ has been extremely special for the entire team. He added that the film was created as a warm and joyful experience that families could watch together, making its premiere on Sony MAX particularly meaningful because of the channel’s strong connection with family audiences.
Genelia Deshmukh shared that the film stands out because of the innocence and positivity with which it presents an important social theme. She said the story celebrates abilities and emotional strength rather than focusing on limitations, and expressed happiness that families across India will now get to experience the film together on television.
Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions by Aamir Khan alongside Aparna Purohit, with B. Shrinivas Rao and Ravi Bhagchandka serving as producers, the film blends humour, emotions and inspiration into a family entertainer designed for audiences across generations.
Sony MAX, known for premiering some of the biggest blockbuster films for television audiences, is positioning the premiere as a major family entertainment event. The World Television Premiere of ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ will air on Sunday, May 31 at 1pm exclusively on Sony MAX.
