Sony Pictures Networks India has secured exclusive broadcast rights for the 2026 Asian Games, bringing the continental multi-sport event back to its network for audiences across India and the subcontinent.
According to a report by The Economic Times, the Games, scheduled to be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026, will be aired live on Sony Sports Network channels and streamed on Sony LIV, ensuring wide accessibility across platforms.
The acquisition comes at a time when interest in multi-sport events in India is witnessing a surge. The previous edition saw the country deliver its best-ever performance with a tally of 107 medals, reflecting its growing dominance and raising expectations for another strong showing in 2026.
The upcoming edition will feature competitions across 41 sports, including 32 Olympic disciplines, along with newer additions such as mixed martial arts and surfing. For Indian audiences, cricket is expected to remain a key attraction, with both men’s and women’s teams aiming to make a strong impact on the continental stage.
Rajesh Kaul, Chief Revenue Officer and Business Head – Sports and International at Sony Pictures Networks India, described the Asian Games as a platform that embodies sporting excellence and national pride. He noted that India’s record medal haul in the last edition has significantly boosted audience interest, setting the stage for strong viewership.
Husain Al-Musallam, Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, said the agreement signals a new phase in how the Asian Games will be distributed across the Indian subcontinent, highlighting the importance of expanding reach and engagement.
Sony plans to deliver comprehensive coverage of the event, including expert analysis and multi-language programming, aiming to enhance viewer experience from the opening ceremony to the final medal events. With India targeting another record-breaking performance, the network is positioning the Games as a major sporting spectacle for audiences at home.
