Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj says his upcoming projects will reflect two distinct creative approaches, with ‘O’ Romeo’ allowing him to channel personal angst, while ‘Lust Stories 3’ will return to a more poetic style of storytelling.
According to a PTI report, the director shared that ‘O’ Romeo’, starring Shahid Kapoor, became a medium for him to express inner conflicts that are difficult to articulate in real life. He described the film as a space where personal emotions and frustrations could be explored through cinematic storytelling.
Bhardwaj, known for critically acclaimed films such as ‘Maqbool’, ‘Omkara’, ‘Kaminey’, and ‘Haider’, said the decision to infuse the narrative with personal angst was a conscious one. He explained that cinema often becomes an outlet to process emotions that cannot be expressed directly, allowing filmmakers to translate internal struggles into characters and stories.
Reflecting on the creative process, he noted that ‘O’ Romeo’ provided him the opportunity to project those unresolved emotions through its protagonist, shaping the tone and intensity of the film. The project, he suggested, carries a more intense and personal undercurrent compared to his earlier works.
Looking ahead, Bhardwaj indicated a shift in tone with ‘Lust Stories 3’, where he plans to revisit a more lyrical and poetic narrative style. The anthology, known for exploring relationships and human emotions, is expected to align more closely with his signature storytelling approach that blends sensitivity with depth.
With two contrasting projects in the pipeline, Bhardwaj appears to be navigating both personal expression and artistic evolution, continuing to experiment with form and narrative while staying rooted in emotionally driven cinema.
