Six-time Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian Maya Rudolph is set to make her long-awaited Broadway debut this spring, stepping into the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in the acclaimed comedy ‘Oh, Mary!’, created by playwright and performer Cole Escola.
Rudolph, widely recognised for her work on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and the hit comedy film ‘Bridesmaids’, will appear in the production for a limited eight-week engagement at the Lyceum Theatre in New York City. Her performances are scheduled to begin on April 28 and will run through June 20. The casting was announced by producers Kevin McCollum, Lucas McMahon, Mike Lavoie and Carlee Briglia, UNI reported.
In a statement, Rudolph shared her excitement about joining the production and stepping into the role of Mary Todd Lincoln. “Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamed of being Cole Escola,” she said, adding that the play is the funniest she has seen and that portraying Mary after many iconic performances in the role feels like a dream come true.
“Oh, Mary! is the funniest play I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of plays, you’d be surprised. It’s such an honor to play the role of Mary, especially after so many iconic Marys have come before me. So making my Broadway debut in the role of a lifetime – as a miserable, suffocated, alcoholic woman – is a real dream come true,” Rudolph said.
Producers also announced that the Broadway production will extend its run through January 3, 2027, reflecting the strong demand for the show. The play will continue alongside its West End staging at the Trafalgar Theatre in London, which has been extended through July 18, 2026, as well as a North American tour scheduled to begin in Hartford, Connecticut in September.
Directed by Sam Pinkleton, who won the Tony Award in 2025, ‘Oh, Mary!’ first opened on Broadway on July 11, 2024. Since its debut, the production has repeatedly broken its own box-office records and has become the first show of the 2024–25 Broadway season to recoup its initial investment, underscoring its popularity with theatre audiences.
