The makers of director Vignesh Raja’s upcoming action entertainer ‘Kara’, featuring Dhanush in the lead, have announced that the film will hit screens worldwide on April 30 this year, building anticipation among fans of the actor and the genre.
According to an IANS report, the announcement was made by producer Ishari K Ganesh, whose banner Vels Film International is backing the project. Speaking during the two-day cultural festival VELS Nakshatra 2026 at VELS University, Ganesh also described ‘Vada Chennai 2’ with Dhanush as a dream project, while confirming the theatrical release schedule of ‘Kara’.
The film was earlier unveiled during Pongal this year, when the makers announced its title and released a poster featuring Dhanush in an intense avatar. The poster carried the tagline, “Sometimes, staying dangerous is the only way to stay alive,” hinting at the film’s gritty tone. Director Vignesh Raja later described the project as an emotionally rooted suspense thriller, signalling its blend of action and drama.
Previously referred to as ‘D54’, the film generated buzz after the production house shared a still from the sets showing Dhanush speaking from an STD booth, offering a glimpse into the film’s narrative setting. Actress Mamitha Baiju plays the female lead, while the supporting cast includes K. S. Ravikumar, Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas and Prithvi Pandiraj in key roles.
On the technical front, cinematography is handled by Theni Eswar, while editing is by Sreejith Sarang. The music for the film has been composed by National Award-winning composer G. V. Prakash Kumar.
The story of the film has been jointly written by Alfred Prakash and director Vignesh Raja, the creative duo behind the critically acclaimed investigative thriller Por Thozhil. The writers, who earlier spent four years developing the script for ‘Por Thozhil’, have often emphasised the strength of collaborative storytelling, believing that shared creative input helps refine ideas and strengthen the narrative.
With a strong cast, experienced technical team and a suspense-driven storyline, ‘Kara’ is expected to be one of the notable theatrical releases this summer.
