Filmmaker Vikas Bahl is set to explore a new genre with his next project, a full-fledged musical romance drama starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Alizeh Agnihotri in lead roles. The yet-untitled film will mark a departure from the director’s earlier works, which include critically acclaimed and commercially successful titles.
According to a UNI report, the film is inspired by the rise of the Punjabi underground movement in the United Kingdom, a cultural wave that blended traditional Punjabi folk sounds with Western musical influences. The project aims to capture the energy of a generation for whom UK Punjabi music became a symbol of identity, rebellion, and cross-cultural expression.
Set in the 1990s, the story will revisit a defining period when the post-immigrant generation, rooted in both the UK and Punjab, began shaping a unique musical landscape. The movement produced an electrifying sound that transcended communities and gained popularity across age groups, creating a vibrant cultural identity that defined an era.
In the film, Chaturvedi will portray a drummer, while Alizeh will play a singer. Against the backdrop of this evolving music scene, the narrative explores themes of romance, ambition, and self-discovery, set during what is widely regarded as the golden phase of UK Punjabi music.
Bahl has completed the script and is expected to begin pre-production soon, with filming scheduled to commence in the second half of 2026. The project is being produced by Reliance Entertainment.
The film also marks Chaturvedi’s second collaboration with Bahl following their upcoming romantic comedy ‘Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling’, which is expected to release in the third quarter of this year. The actor’s recent release ‘Do Deewane Seher Mein’ hit theatres last Friday, and he is also set to begin work on a biopic of legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram before starting Bahl’s musical.
Meanwhile, Alizeh made her acting debut with Farrey, the Hindi remake of the Thai blockbuster Bad Genius. Bahl’s upcoming musical will mark her second film outing, positioning her alongside Chaturvedi in what promises to be a culturally rich and music-driven love story.
