Zee Marathi’s fiction show ‘Kamali’ has marked the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with a special Shiv Jayanti initiative, shooting an episode at the historic Raigad Fort — the former capital of the Maratha empire. The initiative aims to blend heritage-based storytelling with cultural awareness while offering viewers a visually rich and historically rooted narrative.
‘Kamali’ has become the first Marathi fiction show to film at an actual hill fort, setting a new creative and operational benchmark in historical and heritage-focused television storytelling. The special episode goes beyond entertainment by promoting themes such as fort conservation, civic responsibility, and value-based learning, reflecting a broader effort to combine social awareness with mainstream programming.
The on-location shoot features key cast members including Vijaya Babar, Nikhil Damle and Ketaki Kulkarni. The storyline will depict Kamali, played by Vijaya Babar, as a devoted admirer of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who organises a study tour to spread awareness among the younger generation about his leadership, vision, and enduring legacy.
Speaking about the experience, Babar described shooting at Raigad Fort as deeply humbling, adding that portraying a story rooted in swarajya at such a historically significant site brought immense pride to the team. She noted that the cast remained conscious of representing a legacy that holds strong emotional value for millions.
V. R. Hema, Chief Channel Officer of Zee Marathi and Marathi Z5, said the Shiv Jayanti special episodes reinforce the channel’s commitment to culturally rooted and ambitious storytelling. She highlighted that being the first Marathi fiction show to shoot at a historic fort of such stature brings responsibility, requiring sensitivity, authenticity, and respect for heritage. According to her, initiatives like these reflect the network’s belief that
