Aditya Roy Kapur is set to collaborate once again with filmmaker-producer Karan Johar, this time for a genre shift that promises chills rather than romance. Dharma Productions is developing a nerve-racking horror thriller with Kapur in the lead, marking a fresh creative turn for both the actor and the banner.
According to an UNI report, the project has already generated strong internal buzz at Dharma. Sources indicate that Karan Johar has locked the script and moved swiftly to bring Kapur on board. The actor reportedly connected with the material almost immediately. “Adi read the script and didn’t take long to say yes. It’s a unique project, and everyone at Dharma is bullish about the theatrical prospects of the genre,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
The film is expected to go on floors in May 2026. While details of the plot are being kept tightly under wraps, the makers are positioning it as a full-fledged horror thriller designed for the big screen. Talks are also underway with a prominent female actor to star opposite Kapur, with negotiations said to be at an advanced stage.
Interestingly, the identity of the director has not yet been revealed, adding to the intrigue surrounding the project. Dharma Productions, known largely for its glossy romances and mainstream dramas, has been increasingly exploring darker, genre-driven narratives, and this film is seen as a significant step in that direction.
For Aditya Roy Kapur and Karan Johar, the project marks a reunion after ‘Ok Jaanu’, though the new collaboration could not be more different in tone. With a strong script, a popular leading man and a genre that has been drawing audiences back to theatres, the film is shaping up to be one of Dharma’s more unconventional bets in recent years.
