Filmmakers Shoojit Sircar and Vikramaditya Motwane have come on board as presenters for ‘Thursday Special’, a short film directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Varun Tandon. The project brings together an experienced creative team for a story that promises a quiet, emotionally resonant look at relationships and the passage of time.
According to a PTI report, ‘Thursday Special’ has been described as a tender exploration of love, companionship and change. The film stars veteran actors Anubha Fatehpuria and Ramakanth Dayama in the lead roles and is scheduled to release on the Humans of Cinema YouTube channel on January 29.
Written by Varun Tandon, with Krati Tandon serving as co-writer and executive producer, the film is produced by Karan Luthra. The narrative centres on Ram and Shakuntala, an elderly couple whose lives are shaped by decades of marriage, a shared affection for food and a small but meaningful Thursday ritual that anchors their relationship.
With its focus on everyday moments and understated emotions, ‘Thursday Special’ reflects a storytelling sensibility that aligns with the kind of intimate, human-centric cinema often associated with its presenters. Sircar and Motwane’s association adds weight to the project, signalling support for short-format storytelling that prioritises depth over scale.
The film’s release on a digital platform also underscores the growing space for short films to reach wider audiences. ‘Thursday Special’ aims to strike a chord through simplicity and warmth, offering viewers a reflective portrait of love that evolves with time but remains rooted in shared routines and quiet understanding.
