The sequel to last year’s blockbuster ‘Dhurandhar’ has officially been titled ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, with its teaser receiving clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The teaser has been awarded an ‘A’ certificate, signalling a darker, grittier and more hard-hitting tone for the next chapter of the franchise.
According to a UNI report, the certification was granted on Monday, setting the stage for the first official glimpse of the much-anticipated sequel. The ‘A’ rating has further fuelled expectations that ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ will push the envelope in terms of intensity and scale, building on the high-stakes narrative established in the first film.
Industry buzz around the teaser has been strong, with Bollywood Hungama quoting a source close to the development. The source noted that both ‘Dhurandhar 2’ and ‘Border 2’ are positioned as nationalistic films, and Jio Studios is keen to capitalise on the continuing wave of patriotic cinema.
The source added that a new cut of the teaser, previously seen during the end credits of the first film, will also be released digitally after its premiere on the big screen, while remaining a theatrical-exclusive experience for first-time viewers.
The original ‘Dhurandhar’ featured an ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film was produced by Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar’s B62 Studios in association with Jyoti Deshpande’s Jio Studios. The story followed an Indian spy who infiltrates a dreaded gang in Karachi, Pakistan, triggering a series of high-octane events that formed the backbone of the narrative. The sequel is expected to take this storyline forward, expanding the universe and raising the stakes further.
While ‘Dhurandhar’ opened to a relatively measured response at the box office, it steadily gained momentum on the strength of strong word of mouth. Over time, the film went on to deliver a historic run, eventually emerging as a record-breaking success. With collections reaching ₹879.75 crore as of January 18, the film now stands as the highest-grossing Hindi film to date, setting an exceptionally high benchmark for its successor.
Adding to the anticipation, ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ is slated for release exactly two months from now, on March 19. With the teaser already generating buzz and the franchise carrying the weight of massive expectations, all eyes are now on how the sequel builds on one of Hindi cinema’s biggest box-office triumphs.
