Actor Sonakshi Sinha returns to the digital space with ‘Nikita Roy’, a horror-mystery film that is now streaming on JioHotstar. Marking the directorial debut of Kussh S. Sinha, the film places itself at the intersection of rational thought and blind belief, unfolding a tense narrative driven by grief, unanswered questions and unsettling supernatural occurrences. Alongside Sonakshi, the film also stars Paresh Rawal, Suhail Nayyar and Arjun Rampal in key roles.
According to a press release shared by the makers, ‘Nikita Roy’ follows the story of its titular character, a rational thinker who dedicates her life to debunking supernatural myths and superstitions. Produced by Kinjal Ashok Ghone, Nicky Khemchand Bhagnani, Kartos Entertainment, Kussh S. Sinha, Ankur Vijay Takrani, Vicky Khemchand Bhagnani and Dinesh Ratitram Gupta, the film is set against an eerie backdrop that constantly blurs the line between logic and the unexplained.
The narrative takes a darker turn when Nikita’s brother dies under mysterious circumstances. What begins as a personal loss soon becomes a deeper investigation as she digs through layers of deception to uncover the truth. As Nikita ventures further, she is confronted with inexplicable events that test her long-held beliefs, transforming her journey into a gripping psychological and supernatural mystery.
Speaking about the role, Sonakshi said that Nikita felt deeply real to her from the outset. She described the character as someone navigating loss, confusion and uncertainty, yet moving forward with quiet strength. Sinha credited Kussh S. Sinha’s direction for allowing her to explore the silences and emotional layers of the character, adding that the film’s release on JioHotstar gives it the opportunity to reach a much wider audience.
Rawal, who plays Amar Dev, said he was drawn to the understated nature of his character. Calling it a departure from many of his previous roles, he noted that Amar Dev’s power lies in influence and presence rather than overt aggression.
