Ultra Jhakaas has opened its 2026 content slate with the world digital premiere of the Marathi film ‘Kairee’, marking a strong start to the year for the platform. Headlined by Sayali Sanjeev, the film is set to stream exclusively on Ultra Jhakaas from January 14.
Directed by Shantanu Rode, ‘Kairee’ explores themes of resilience, identity and self-discovery through a deeply personal and emotionally grounded narrative.
The announcement has been made via a press release, highlighting ‘Kairee’ as a significant addition to Ultra Jhakaas’ growing portfolio of contemporary Marathi cinema. Shot extensively in London, the film follows the journey of a village woman whose life takes an unexpected and unsettling turn after she moves abroad with her husband, only for him to mysteriously disappear soon after. Left alone in an unfamiliar city, she is compelled to confront social isolation, emotional uncertainty and harsh realities while searching for answers and reclaiming her sense of self.
Sayali Sanjeev anchors the film with a restrained yet powerful performance, bringing quiet strength and emotional depth to a character navigating loss and transformation. The narrative is further enriched by a strong supporting cast that includes Subodh Bhave, Siddharth Jadhav and Shashank Ketkar, each contributing layered performances that add texture and nuance to the story. Balancing moments of warmth with introspective storytelling, ‘Kairee’ reflects the evolving voice of contemporary Marathi cinema and its willingness to engage with global settings while staying rooted in cultural authenticity.
Produced by Naveen Chandra, Nandita Rao Karnad, Swati Khopkar and Ninad Battin, the film blends locally grounded storytelling with an international backdrop, making it relevant to audiences in India as well as the global Marathi diaspora. Its London setting serves not just as a visual canvas but as an integral part of the protagonist’s emotional and psychological journey.
With the digital premiere of ‘Kairee’, Ultra Jhakaas continues to strengthen its position as India’s largest Marathi OTT platform. The service currently offers a catalogue of over 2,000 Marathi titles, spanning films, original series, theatre content, television shows and culturally rooted programming.
Catering to viewers across Maharashtra and Marathi-speaking audiences worldwide, Ultra Jhakaas remains focused on championing authentic Marathi stories through accessible and meaningful digital storytelling.
