The first trailer of Anne Hathaway’s upcoming music drama ‘Mother Mary’ has been released, giving audiences an intense glimpse into the film before its scheduled 2026 arrival in cinemas.
The makers dropped the trailer on Tuesday, setting off fresh buzz around the David Lowery-directed project that also stars Michaela Coel in a central role.
According to a UNI report, the film follows Hathaway as a global pop sensation who abruptly pauses her tour after an existential breakdown. In her attempt to rebuild her life and identity, she reconnects with Sam, played by Coel — a fashion designer and longtime friend who was instrumental in shaping her public persona. The trailer teases an atmospheric, emotionally layered story that blends music, fame, obsession and the psychological pressures of stardom.
Sharing the trailer on Instagram, Hathaway wrote, “Some feuds will haunt you. Watch the trailer for MOTHER MARY, a psychosexual pop thriller from David Lowery starring Anne Hathaway, Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer, and FKA Twigs. With original music written and produced by Jack Antonoff, Charli XCX, and FKA Twigs. In theaters this Spring.” The soundtrack, created by some of the industry’s most influential contemporary artists, features original compositions by Antonoff, Charli XCX and FKA Twigs — the latter also appearing in the film.
The ensemble cast includes Hunter Schafer, Atheena Frizzell, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Alba Baptista and Sian Clifford. Mother Mary marks the third collaboration between Lowery and A24 after their acclaimed work on A Ghost Story (2017) and The Green Knight (2021). Lowery is also credited with Disney’s Pete’s Dragon and the upcoming Peter Pan & Wendy.
Meanwhile, Hathaway is simultaneously generating excitement with another major project — the highly awaited sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. The makers recently released a brief teaser, reuniting much of the original cast nearly 20 years after the iconic first film. The 51-second clip opens with Meryl Streep’s formidable Miranda Priestly striding through the Runway office in her trademark red heels, followed by Hathaway’s Andy Sachs joining her in the elevator with a confident smile, hinting at renewed tensions and fresh drama in the fashion world.
Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the sequel introduces new cast members including Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall and Caleb Hearon. ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ is slated for theatrical release on May 1, 2026.
