ZEE5 has set November 28 as the digital premiere date for its latest high-energy action-comedy ‘The Pet Detective’, bringing the film to a wider audience after its theatrical run. The platform confirmed the release, highlighting the movie’s mix of humour, eccentric characters, and fast-paced storytelling that is expected to appeal strongly to family audiences and comedy lovers.
Directed by Praneesh Vijayan, ‘The Pet Detective’ stars Sharaf U Dheen in the lead role, who also makes his debut as producer with this project. The film features an impressive ensemble including Vinayakan, Vinay Forrt, Anupama Parameswaran, Shyam Mohan, and Joemon Jyothir, all of whom contribute to the film’s chaotic and entertaining narrative.
The story follows Tony Jose Alula (played by Sharaf U Dheen), an underachieving but ambitious detective eager to prove his worth. What starts as a seemingly simple missing-pet case soon unravels into a wild spiral of events involving international smugglers, kidnappers, a lost child, a Mexican mafia don, exotic fish, and even a police inspector competing with Tony for the same girl. The makers describe the film as a humorous, high-voltage entertainer with coincidences and comedic chaos reminiscent of classic Priyadarshan-style climaxes.
Sharaf U Dheen said the film holds a special place in his heart, both as its lead actor and as a first-time producer. “The Pet Detective is very special to me, not just as an actor, but because it marks my debut as a producer. We wanted to make a film that audiences can simply laugh with, without overthinking. It’s chaotic, colourful, and full of heart. I’m thrilled that viewers across can now enjoy it on Malayalam ZEE5,” he said.
‘The Pet Detective’ begins streaming exclusively on ZEE5 from November 28.
