ZEE5 Marathi unveils new series ‘Baai Tujhyapayi’

Baai Tujhyapayi

ZEE5 Marathi has unveiled a thought-provoking mural in Mumbai, paying tribute to the essence of its latest Marathi series ‘Baai Tujhyapayi’. The vibrant artwork captures the soul of the show — courage, questioning, and transformation — while highlighting the enduring gender disparity in education.

According to a press release, the striking mural depicts a young girl standing before a blackboard inscribed with “Boys – 20, Girls – 1,” a powerful reflection of the imbalance that continues to exist in classrooms across India. Beneath her, the artwork beautifully illustrates Ahilya and her mother, Lakshmi — the protagonists of the series — symbolizing love, resilience, and defiance against restrictive societal norms. The mural serves as a visual extension of Baai Tujhyapayi’s message, encouraging viewers to ask why the simplest dreams often remain the hardest for women to achieve.

Directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari, ‘Baai Tujhyapayi’ stars Sajiri Joshi, Kshitee Jog, and Siddhesh Dhuri. Set in a small Maharashtrian village in the early 1990s, the story follows the inspiring journey of Ahilya, a young girl determined to become a doctor despite the deeply rooted social expectations around her. In a world where girls are often forced to leave school once they begin menstruating, Ahilya’s dream becomes a quiet act of defiance and hope.

Since its release, the series has received critical acclaim and strong audience appreciation for its authentic portrayal of rural life, emotional depth, and the moving depiction of a mother-daughter bond that stands firm against patriarchy. The show has also sparked vital conversations about gender equality, education, and women’s empowerment in India’s smaller towns and villages.

Kshitee Jog, who plays Lakshmi in the series, shared, “Being part of Baai Tujhyapayi has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career, and seeing its spirit captured through this mural is deeply moving. The story isn’t just Ahilya’s — it’s every woman’s, every mother’s, who learns to unlearn and stand up for what she believes in. This wall is more than art; it’s a symbol of resilience, love, and faith in change.”

Sajiri Joshi, who portrays Ahilya, added, “Standing before this beautiful mural today feels truly emotional. Baai Tujhyapayi has been a journey of courage and transformation — not just for Ahilya, but for everyone who’s ever questioned what’s considered ‘normal’. This mural celebrates every girl who dares to ask why and chooses courage over fear. I hope it inspires people to believe that real change begins with one brave question.”

Through this mural, ZEE5 Marathi not only celebrates the success of its series but also reinforces its commitment to storytelling that drives meaningful change — reminding audiences that courage often begins with a single act of questioning.
