WinZO, IEIC, Business Finland join hands to boost gaming sector

India’s largest interactive entertainment platform WinZO, the Interactive Entertainment and Innovation Council (IEIC), and Business Finland have announced a landmark collaboration aimed at building strong synergies between India and Finland in the gaming sector.

The initiative is designed to co-create innovative, export-ready gaming experiences from India by drawing on Finland’s global expertise and India’s fast-growing gaming market.

According to a press release issued by WinZO, the partnership will tap into Finland’s exceptional success in developing a globally competitive gaming ecosystem, supported by its strong talent pipeline and world-renowned titles. To mark the beginning of this collaboration, the partners are set to launch a detailed case study at the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi, unpacking Finland’s journey and offering insights for Indian stakeholders.

Finland today stands as one of the most successful gaming economies in the world, generating over USD 3.9 billion annually, with nearly 98% of that revenue coming from exports. Home to iconic global successes such as Rovio’s Angry Birds and Supercell’s Clash of Clans, Finland has emerged as a benchmark in mobile-first, casual gaming innovation. Progressive government policies, cutting-edge education in game design, and long-term public investment through institutions like Business Finland have been central to this growth. Remarkably, more than a billion players worldwide have engaged with Finnish-developed games, despite the country’s small population of 5.6 million.

India, on the other hand, is one of the fastest-growing gaming markets globally, with over 600 million gamers, accounting for nearly 20 percent of mobile game downloads worldwide. With its vast and diverse user base, thriving content creator ecosystem, and rising developer participation, India is increasingly focused on building indigenous IPs that are export-ready, inspired by Finland’s global trajectory.
H.E. Kimmo Lähdevirta, Ambassador of Finland to India, underlined the complementarity of the two markets, saying: “In the gaming sector, Finland and India make a good match where India’s scale meets Finnish craft. We are happy to see the growing potential of Finnish Gaming IP to reach Indian consumers through trusted platform partners here in India.”

Rohit Kumar Singh, IAS (Retd), Chairman of IEIC and former Secretary to the Government of India, noted: “This collaboration presents a unique opportunity to build a strong bridge between India and Finland. Finland’s experience provides invaluable lessons for India, and together we can create an innovation corridor that empowers startups, developers, and creators in both countries to achieve global impact.”

Paavan Nanda, Co-Founder of WinZO, added: “India has all the ingredients to be a global leader of interactive entertainment—scale, diversity, and creativity. With Finland’s proven export model as inspiration, this collaboration will accelerate India’s journey towards building Indian content that is inclusive and global in reach.”

The partnership aims to foster an active exchange of talent and knowledge, opening new opportunities for startups and developers in both countries. It is also expected to create avenues for cross-border investments, market access, and initiatives that will extend gaming’s influence beyond entertainment into areas such as education, cultural exchange, and social impact.

At its core, the initiative envisions a sustainable bridge between India and Finland, combining Finland’s legacy of excellence with India’s scale and cultural depth. The collaboration aspires to establish a new standard of global leadership in gaming and interactive entertainment, driven by shared creativity, innovation, and ambition.
